“Growth begins the moment you stop protecting the person you used to be.”

In light of Easter passing yesterday, I’ve been reflecting again… which I tend to do often (shout out to all you overthinkers out there).

Despite what you may believe religiously, let’s talk about a big part of the meaning of Easter. It’s a time of resurrection, in the Catholic faith, it is focused on Jesus, however, I like to think about some of the other stuff surrounding this holiday, such as Spring.

Both Easter and Spring have a symbolic meaning, as well as synchronicity around the concept of Rebirth.

Spring is the cycle for earth as everything is dead, being reborn and budding. Easter is in my opinion the human form of this.

I think it’s interesting to look at how everything has a cycle, life, and death constantly dancing with each other to create balance in the universe.

Killing the Old Self

In my time reflecting I was thinking about how to become the next best version of myself, I had to effectively kill the old me, to be reborn in the image I desire most.

I also reflected on how this is hard for most of us. We grow to be in love with who we are and that’s a major sticking point of why so many of us struggle to become who we want to be.

There is a great deal of pain associated with killing your old self.

We must learn to detach from the identity we held for so long. The identity that got us through the good and the bad times. The comfort of the emotional and mental home we built for ourselves.

Self work is exhausting and destructive like a raging flame. However that’s what allows a rebirth, you cannot have a rebirth without ashes to rise from first.

Designing the Person You Want to Become

So how do we go through this purposeful process?

Well, it starts by recognizing who you aspire to be.

What does the best version of you look like?

Most importantly, how close or far away from that person are you?

This is one of the major keys to transforming your life, you can’t build a life of design without an intentional design created for your roadmap first.

Radical Honesty With Yourself

The next step requires you to be completely honest about who you are, and have been.

I mean brutally honest here.

When I was doing this part of the process, I had to acknowledge I was struggling with anxiety and depression, I was weak, not someone to be admired, and the list went on.

However this is your most powerful step to freedom, we cannot change something we cannot acknowledge.

Clarity Through Action

The next step in this process is to challenge yourself to identify what steps you MUST take to evolve as a person.

What you need to learn.

How you need to act.

What you must do daily.

What ways you influence the world around you, etc.

This will build a higher level of clarity and show you where to build intention in your current life.

Creating the Environment for Change

Lastly, create a game plan with yourself.

Spend time changing your environment, internally and externally to match the lifestyle you want to live.

Our world is just a reflection of ourselves, so look for clues in your physical world if you’re feeling like you may be stuck when you look inward.

Ultimately your capability to create consistent movement towards the person you want to become is your key to lasting transformation.

The Cost of Transformation

Also most importantly through this process, remember everything in life has cycles.

From the lowly ant to the massive star, everything lives, dies, and gets reborn.

There is no reason you, at any given time, can't do the same thing for your own life.

The question comes down to, are you ready?

This isn’t an easy process.

You will lose friends and relationships.

You’ll realize how limited you’ve been in how you show up in your life.

You’ll look at things differently, and realize things you enjoyed, was only because you lied to yourself.

You may quit your job, or leave a long term relationship.

You may feel down for a little while, and maybe cut off some family members.

But, if you embark on this journey I can also tell you from my own experience it will be the most fulfilling thing you’ve ever done.

Closing Thoughts

You’ll find true happiness that comes from a life of alignment with your internal values.

You’ll build amazing genuine relationships.

You’ll find purpose and passion in your work.

You’ll show up powerfully for yourself and learn more about yourself than you knew.

You will truly create a life of design and intentionality for yourself, and I promise though it will be hard, it will be IMMENSELY worth it.

I hope you embark on this fulfilling journey, and if there is anything I can do to support you please let me know!

Always in your corner!
